Learning to Fly - Jewellery Collection |
|
New jewellery designer Tatiana Handal will be exhibiting her Dragonfly collection, at New Designers 2009, to be hold at Business Design Centre, 52 Upper Street, London N1; from 9 - 12 July 2009.
Born in La Paz – Bolivia, Tatiana Handal spent many years training in performance arts: acting, dancing, and singing. Her past performing experience has influenced her in creating dramatic jewellery pieces evoking the captivating theatrical impression of the stage.
Tatiana designs and produces evocative women’s jewellery, from intricate neckpieces through to dainty pendants, earrings and rings. Her design philosophy starts by producing an initial theatrical piece that can be worn in a performance, on a catwalk, or exhibited in a gallery. After an initial piece has been created, the design and production of jewellery items follow. Her work evolves according to the stimulus of a moment, a sudden thought, an artist’s influence, a narrative, a theatrical piece…
Her current work was inspired by dragonflies, moths and cockroaches that resembled mysterious characters. Tatiana observes in insects the clashing relationship between organic wing forms contrasting the rigid structure of their bodies. She has crystallize this aspects in the delicate use of plique- à- jour enamel combined with photo-etched organic shapes; and structure composed by the fitting body of these thespian ornaments made from silver. |

Natalie Turner- Surface Pattern Designer |
|
The traditional British seaside town of Blackpool was the inspiration behind graduate surface pattern designer, Natalie Turner's degree show. The show features three vibrant and eye-catching deckchairs which take on the traditional deckchair and give it a much needed modern twist. Turner's super-summer deckchairs capture the essence and memories of the traditional British seaside holiday, as credit crunched Britain once again turns to our coasts for a relaxing break.
The conteporary, graphical style and bright colour palette of vibrant yellow, cool blues and summery pinks in Turner's latest range define her exciting and original style and evokes memories of care free childhood fun by the seaside.
The striking designs have been created by hand using the traditional technique of silk screenprinting which give them a unique, one-off finish. Turner enjoys using a diverse range of techniques throughout her work including stitch, heat-transfer, collage and digital manipulation.
After the success of her degree show, Turner is excited and enthusiastic about pursuing her career as a surface pattern designer and is looking forward to any opportunities which may arise from New Designer's exhibition.

It's recycleing but with a difference:turning junk into highly desirable pieces. Four desingers tell Charlotte Abrahams about 'upcycling'
Suzie Gutteridge

It was while she was experimenting with paper cups that Suzie Gutteridge noticed the effect of a plant's shadow on the side. "I began cutting around the image until the cup unravelled, and realised I had created exactly the effect I'd been looking for," the designer says. The finished pieces - wall mounted sculptures of creeping tendrils - are things of unusual beauty. Her latest piece is a decorative, delicate light box (itself made from discarded wood). "These cups have been discarded en masse," "Gutteridge sayd. "I am giving them a new life and meaning."

Nostalgia Meets Contemporary in Knitted Accessories Collection |
|
Victoria Jackman, a graduating student from the Hull School of Art and Design will be exhibiting a collection of exciting knitted accessories at the New Designers exhibition, Business Design Centre, London. Victoria will be exhibiting during Part 1 which will take place from the 9th - 12th July 2009. The collection will consist of a contemporary range of hats, scarves and gloves, which are nostalgic in style but with a modern feel.
Inspired by the internal mechanisms of old pocket watches, Victoria has created a collection of luxury and sophisticated accessories in a dramatic colour palette of rich and warm colours. The theme presents a refreshing mix of femininity and organic texture. Victoria uses soft lamb's wool and creates a wealth of different knitted structures in the form of scalloped and picot edges, extravagant crochet and unique stitches. These accessories reflect individual expression and are timeless pieces to any wearer. |

I create designs by combining unusual themes and concepts. I love the combination of strong geometric shapes and quirky linear drawings.
My work portrays a graphical and futuristic style which is full of energy.
The theme of my work ‘Up, Above and Beyond’ explores the juxtaposition of circuit boards, crop circles and aerial views to create bespoke pieces of wall art.
My inspiration comes from emerging trends, museum/gallery visits, and the social climate that we live in. I enjoy experimenting with different techniques such as screen printing, discharge printing, bleaching and dyeing to see what new and different effects can be created to enhance my drawing and design work.
My creative skills allow me to design for a diverse range of products, including ceramics, greetings cards, interior prints, furnishings, fashion print and stationery.
I am a highly enthusiastic and ambitious person, who works extremely hard and enjoys a challenge. Passionate about my work, I take pride in what I do and I am looking forward to furthering my design potential in the design world. |
