A new fashion brand is on the horizon and will be the name to watch from autumn 2009. Creative cognicenti and fashion trendsetters should look out for EYOLA whose designer, Aloye Adede, is geared to capture their attention at the New Designers exhibition (9-12 July 2009, at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London N1: www.newdesigners.com). EYOLA was selected by a distinguished panel from hundreds of emerging designers to participate in the One Year On showcase which features 45 young designers who are tipped for success.
THE DESIGNER
London based Eyola was created in 2008 by British designer Aloye Adede - a Masters graduate from prestigious Italian design school IED, Istituto Europeo di Design (where she graduated top of her class) and with past experience working for highly reputable fashion designers including Alexander McQueen.
THE BRAND
Based on the hallmarks of Victorian fashion each piece blends historical references from nineteenth century fashion with a modern twist. Eyola typifies artistically inclined pieces that rely on intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail. Through the creation of exclusive and differentiated products, Eyola transcends the limits of fashion; immune to expiration and seasonality. Each collection consists of eight pieces which form an ‘Octette’. This new term stems from the defining curves of the Victorian corset (a figure eight or hourglass figure) and represents a new and unusual fashion system. With only eight pieces in each Octette, the focus is on creating a unique product that combines couture techniques with prêt-à-porter wearability.
Each piece in the Octette is available in a bold colour palette, with some of the pieces also available in a shadow version of classic colours: black, navy blue, grey, white or cream. The choice of bold colours for the Octette stems from Sir William Perkin’s discovery in the nineteenth century: the taste for bright, strong and deep colour dyes that do not fade. Designs range from £350 to £2,000 and main stockists include Eyola’s website www.eyola.com and selected boutiques in London.
