Recently shown at the Milan Furniture Fair, Laura Carnell’s unique inlaid timber and pewter tiles would be a welcome addition to any home, contemporary or traditional. Laura, of Rara Design, offers a bespoke service for the design, specification and construction of contemporary inlaid furniture. Working in sustainable hardwoods to produce beautiful, high-quality pieces, she develops personalised illustrations that can be inlaid into the wood, imbuing surfaces with delicacy and meaning.

The technique allows for fluid and contemporary inlay designs and can be applied to any number of surfaces from floors and walls to kitchen and bathroom worktops, as well as free-standing furniture and fittings. Past projects have included maps of London and Milan, contours of both figures and landscape, and text-based images. Laura Carnell is a member of the Association of British Pewter Craftsmen, winner of the architectural category of Pewter Live, 2007 and winner of the 2007/8 competition to design and make sets of awards for the Unlocking Cornish Potential initiative. She has exhibited a number of times in London and recently at the Milan Furniture Fair, 2008. Laura runs Rara Design with fellow UCF graduate, Grant Jones, producing bespoke, contemporary inlaid furniture for both corporate and individual clients.
