Livewire Awards go to enterprising North East Businesses - 26th of April, 2006 North East names top Shell Livewire young entrepreneur A 23–year-old bespoke wallpaper designer from Ellon was today 24th of April 2006 named as North East Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 and took a major step closer to becoming the overall Scotland winner. Johanna Basford won the £1000 first prize at the North East final of the 2006 Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, which are supported nationally by Shell UK. The Award for Best Potential & Innovation was presented to Claire Smith of Berry Scrumptious, a company which hand dips strawberries in finest Belgium chocolate based in Fraserburgh. The competition, which has been running for 24 years, recognises and rewards the UK’s most outstanding young entrepreneurs with prizes across the UK, including the top prize of £10,000. Johanna’s business, Johanna Basford Designs, designs bespoke wallpaper and has been trading since January 2006. To win, Johanna outshone other young entrepreneurs from the North East who have recently started up their own businesses. Johanna will now represent the North East at the Scottish final in Edinburgh on the 8th of June 2006 with the chance of winning £3000.
