Artist inspires students

Students from Harrow Way Community School had a creative treat recently when they were visited by Kirsty Whitlock, Artist in Residence of De Montfort University.

 

The artist had taken time out from her busy exhibition schedule to meet the GCSE students in Years 10 and 11, giving them an insight into the career of someone relating to their course.

Kirsty brought with here a comprehensive portfolio of work to discuss with the teenagers, who were also very interested to hear about her artistic journey from school to university .

As a group they also disscussed what the students choices could be once they ha sucessfully completed their own GCSES.

Kirsty said: “As soon as I entered the School I noticed the variety of artwork which is displayed on the walls."

"The students I went on to meet were totally engaged and interested in my work and story. The facilities and range of materials and techniques they have the opportunity to learn here is tremendous and the work I saw was to a high standard .”

Kirsty who is now taking her work to London, Harrogate and Dublin, finished her visit leaving the students inspired to acheive in art.

One student was thrilled to have Kirsty visit the school and said: “It has been great to hear from someone like Kirsty.

"We all thought her work was brilliant and she has really made me think about how I can make my passion for art a reality.”
