130-YEAR-OLD GETS INJECTION OF YOUTH February 2006 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Modern and trendy are not words usually associated with a 130-year-old. But Jessamy Kelly has ensured those are exactly the adjectives that spring to mind when you think of Edinburgh Crystal. Jessamy Kelly, 27, has worked as a designer for Edinburgh Crystal for the past 4 years bringing a fresh new approach to crystal design. Her designs are trend-led to inspire a younger generation of consumers. Recently her work has concentrated on the contemporary, bringing new exciting designs to the market place. One of Britain’s most exciting young designers, Jessamy graduated from a Masters Degree in Glass Design in 2002 at Edinburgh College of Art. Over the past year, she has been designing a new exciting chapter in the history of Edinburgh Crystal that will be launched at Spring Fair, Birmingham NEC. Jessamy’s ‘Signet’ range will be one of the highlights of the exhibition. “The event previews, ‘Signet’ a contemporary range of glassware for the home interior that appeals to people’s sensitive and aesthetic needs. My work identifies the connection that occurs between people and well designed objects, linked to the relationship we experience with the objects we choose to have in our homes.” The modern collection marks a new direction for Edinburgh Crystal, which began in 1867. While retaining the classic character of one of Britain’s most famous crystal makers, the new collection embodies new trends and designs. It is expected to attract younger buyers, as well as appealing to the company’s existing large customer base.
