Press Release 17th January 2007 On|Off Artist Wendy Daws collaborates with Fashion Designer Elisabeth Edlbauer to create an acrylic showpiece Wendy Daws and Elisabeth Edlbauer are proud to have been commissioned by Doll, the fashion events company, to produce a bespoke piece of artwork for On|Off by arrangement of The Royal Academy of Arts, 6 Burlington Gardens on the 13th -15th February. The work is a reconstruction of Wendy Daws' bespoke 'memory blankets'; an acrylic light installation featuring nostalgic images of the best On|Off moments of the past five seasons. The work will combine fashion and three-dimensional design to create a wearable piece that will be showcased at the event. The work will recreate On|Off’s original ‘Memory Blanket’, which consisted of silhouettes of human groups reproduced in acrylic and sewn together to form a blanket, which was lit in such a way that beautiful line drawings were projected onto the wall behind. The threading of the acrylic pieces represented the way in which memories are connected. This time the work will be reconstructed as an adventurous, sculptured, asymmetrical dress with oversized sections, head decoration and drapes that incorporate aspects of the original concept. The piece is nostalgic and personal to On|Off, the event responsible for showcasing the brightest new and established fashion talent at London Fashion Week. “On” refers to more established designers, while “Off” refers to exciting up and coming designers. On|Off is known as one of the hottest events of London Fashion Week. On|Off also presents work by designers and artists from other sectors.
