The Oriole A/W 07/08 collection debuts at the New Designers Exhibition, London. Designer Kate Bacon(BA Fashion Design Graduate) displays the Oriole label to the press, trade and public and in doing so brings her intellectual design philosophy and customer focused design to a new arena. The Oriole philosophy is to create a sophisticated form of beauty through a belief in clothing as the ultimate functional art form. Designing for the customer and for the body, the organic is taken as the ultimate inspiration for this functional beauty. Consideration over the use of colour is seen as a key aspect to the Oriole concept. Using a spectrum of greys infused with exotic blooms of fuchsia and tangerine. Grey is significant in showing the exquisite cut of the garments whilst also representing the sophisticated beauty which my customer has the utmost appreciation for. The bursts of colour symbolise the multifaceted personality which my customer has. Key Influences The Oriole Collection is borne from a concept and belief in a customer and her needs. The idea of beauty and function combining is inspired primarily by organic form and structure and consideration of how this form evolves. Appreciating the unexpected beauty that comes with the birth and death of a living entity, which is often overlooked in favour of the glorious and more obvious moments of beauty. Appreciation is key, a comprehension and admiration of the finer details. Designed with this concept in mind, the Oriole collection is about looking beyond the obvious. Materials and Techniques Oriole is about an experience for a woman through touch and interaction with the garments. Fabric choice is key, playing with textures and weights creating interest through the juxtaposition of different fabric qualities. My customer is demanding and as such only the finest fabrics will suffice; silks, wools, leather and velvet all in a variety of compositions, weights and textures provide the experience. Market / Customer Aimed primarily at the modern career woman the Oriole collection reflects sophistication in a woman. Layering of pieces and the ability for them to be functional yet in this function inherently beautiful enables them to be worn all day whilst still allowing them to be carried through to the evening when desired.
