Inspired by her accidental involvement in set design Jo’s passion for design was reawakened. Her ever-growing interest and natural ability to add a modern twist to traditional craft techniques drew her understandably to Rycotewood Furniture Centre.
In her final year of a degree in furniture Design and Making, Jo has developed a strong sense of originality creating luxurious, yet classical, one-off pieces with an unique edge. This in combination with her attention to detail shows off her skills as a fine furniture maker.
Jo is passionate about creating environmentally friendly furniture – built to last and with timber sourced from sustainable forests. Wherever possible materials and resources are supplied by local industry.
With all this in mind it is not surprising Jo has been awarded a number of accolades during her time at Rycotewood. These include Craftswoman of the Year (2007 & 2008), Best Piece in Show (voted by Public) and Best Piece in Show (voted by Industry).
“ My time at Rycotewood has been truly inspiring. My tutors and peers have continually motivated me to produce work that I am proud of and that has challenged my skills and ability. I now feel eager and ready to embark upon a career in an industry that I love.” Jo Maylin
