LUXE ‘MODERN LIVING’ VANITY CABINET
The 2008 New Designer’s Showcase in London featured an array of imaginative new concepts, but it is multi-award winning designer Joanne Maylin who is really wowing the crowds with her new modern living collection. Her latest creation is the Luxe ‘Modern Living’ Vanity Cabinet, an inspired take on the traditional dressing table.
Joanne describes the piece as a new women’s lifestyle concept – combining the high-speed digital age with the glamorous era of languishing in front of the dressing table. The external design is evocative of a 1940’s boudoir. The weathered sycamore and bird’s eye maple wood combining beautifully with inlaid mother of pearl butterflies.
Housed within this stunning exterior you will find two mirrors, drawers for make-up and applicator storage, a cushioned jewellery drawer and a display shelf for perfume and lotions. So that covers all your dressing table needs, but what about the technology? Well in addition to a laptop holder this chic little item also boasts a notice board and space to hold a mobile phone or mp3 player, so whether you need to check your emails before work or just fancy a little social networking and some music whilst getting ready, this unique piece will facilitate all your requirements.
The influence of modernity upon the design is further evidenced in the size of the piece. Unlike conventional dressing tables or computer desks, Joanne’s design is wall mounted and compact enough to fit into the smallest of rooms. Even more impressive is that when the cabinet is not in use, the contents can be completely enclosed creating an attractive and practical storage solution.
