May 2006 - Rosalind Bates - From Pillow to Showcase
Dolls have moved out of the bedroom - to Islington - with the emergence of Rosalind Bates' hand-made fabric pieces at One Year On. Having graduated from Winchester School of Art in 2005, Rosalind set out to continue developing her personal, illustrative style of textile design. This venture has lead to her being selected to showcase her craft as part of One Year On @ New Designers. Her delicate dolls combine natural fabrics with meticulous line drawings, quirky doodles and refined candy colours. Each one - inspired by passages from books, poems and idle thoughts - is decorated with images that “although outwardly beautiful, are often 'Tim Burtonesque' in their macabre undertones.” To view Rosalind's work visit New Designers Part 1 at the Business Design Centre, Upper Street, Islington from 29 June - 2 July or go online at www.rosalindbates.com.
