Nov 2005 - Hsiao-Chi Tsai - Kew and the Royal College of Art Announce a New Installation |
|
A collaborative commission between the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Royal College of Art has resulted in four stunning new wall hangings situated in Kew’s historic Orangery. Four MA Textiles Designers from one of London’s most prestigious art colleges took inspiration from various aspects of Kew’s landscape and their work will be exhibited to diners at Kew’s popular restaurant from 21 to 28 November 2005. Hsiao-chi took her inspiration from the pond situated in front of the iconic Palm House. The shadows and movements of the water are represented in the three dimensional cut out shapes that pervade the work. The banner was entirely hand made offering a very intimate quality to the piece which acts in stark contrast to the grandness of its setting.
