Sep 2006 - Wendy Daws - Press Release for Doll On|Off September Fashion week by Enza Di Stasi
On|Off SHOWCASES THE BEST IN FASHION, ACCESSORIES AND PRODUCT DESIGN DURING LONDON FASHION WEEK 18 – 20 SEPTEMBER 2006 18 September 2006, London, UK: In its sixth and greatest season yet, On|Off, at the Royal Horticultural Halls, hosts 16 international catwalk shows and numerous fashion and accessory exhibitors alongside product designers at this three-day event for fashion and design industry opinion formers, international press, buyers and celebrities. During preparations for this season, On|Off was impacted by the fire at the Royal Academy of Arts which struck 17 days before London Fashion Week. Within 24 hours of learning this news, On|Off was able to secure new premises at the Royal Horticultural Halls and although the size of the event has been reduced to fit within the current location, On|Off’s high caliber offering and standards still remain. To highlight this, On|Off will be embracing the latest technology for this season's event. Visitors will be able to view a live stream of each of the shows as they occur on a high resolution Apple Cinema Display HD; video podcasts of the shows will be available for download at the iTunes Store or from Urbanjunkies.com directly onto an iPod with video; iMacs with Intel Core 2 Duo processors will be in the press room; and visitors to the Apple Store on Regent Street will be able to watch the video podcasts on iPods in-store and feel part of the On|Off experience at London Fashion Week. On|Off CATWALK SHOW DESIGNERS On-schedule designers Gardem Paris and Allegra Hicks will make a welcome return to On|Off with their much anticipated S/S07 collections. It is particularly poignant that Gardem Paris is showcasing this season at On|Off since Garen Demedijian, the designer behind the label, recently had to escape the war in Lebanon with the uncertainty of knowing whether his collection would make it safely to Paris during the bomb blasts. The remainder of his collection – which is sponsored by Cotton USA – will draw on the inspiration and bravery of the people of Lebanon using refined fabrics and more modest US cotton to juxtapose his reality. Joining the on-schedule designers will be an exciting mix of talent including Aimee McWilliams, Caroline Charles, Jean Pierre Braganza, Kristian Aadnevik, Avsh Alom Gur and Bérubé. Debuting at On|Off will be the ever intriguing Robert Cary-Williams who has also created the limited-edition On|Off T-shirts for this season and a customised Knomo bag featuring digital screen for movie buffs. Other designers to make debut appearances are Berlin design label, Kaviar Gauche; former Creative Designer for Versus, Esther Franklin; rising star of Australian Fashion Week, Alice McCall; identical twins, Spijkers en Spijkers, knitwear boutique label, Weardowney; and after a break from London Fashion Week last season, Future Classics. Mother of Pearl, the new and flourishing label by Maia Norman (Damien Hirst’s partner) and Sue Foulston (previously at Jasper Conran) will stage their first catwalk show during London Fashion Week at On|Off. On|Off VISIONARY AWARD WINNER Kaviar Gauche has been awarded the On|Off Visionary Award to launch the Berlin-based label’s collection on the catwalk at On|Off during London Fashion Week. This will be Kaviar Gauche’s first international catwalk show collection. The Visionary Award each season recognises young designers whose fashion talent would benefit from the step up to an international catwalk creating an all expenses paid-for platform for them to showcase their work to the industry at large. On|Off DESIGNER EXHIBITION On|Off is proud to introduce new men swear label SOAR by Tim Soar to the designer exhibition. Soar’s collection of high-end tailored suits and shirts in treated silks, cottons and linens feature a distinct 50s rockabilly edge. Showcasing their men’s and women swear collections in the On|Off pods designed by Anthony Dickens will be AminakaWilmont and Jean-Pierre Braganza, who has also created the On|Off aprons for this season. On|Off staples Aimee McWilliams and Yuchi together with On|Off newcomers Aman Copland, Robert Cary-Williams, Weardowney, Kaviar Gauche, Richard Sorger, Spijkers en Spijkers and Anja Austa will all be presenting their selling womenswear collections in the designer exhibition area. With European ideas incubating in the collections by ioannisdimitrousis, Ramón Gurillo and Romina Karamanea and displays of luxury end, pirate-themed men’s jewellery by Hannah Martin alongside beautifully crafted shoes by FINSK designer, Julia Lundsten, the On|Off exhibition pods and stands will undoubtedly attract media attention, orders and investment from the captains of industry for these rising stars. The On|Off designer exhibition will also feature two designers from Glasgow: Scotland with Style Design Collective - Niki Taylor, who is behind the edgy label Olanic and jewellery designer Sarah Raffel of Brazen Studios. They will each exhibit their collections thanks to support from Glasgow City Marketing Bureau whose aim is to raise the region’s profile south of the border. INTRODUCING On|Off PRODUCT DESIGNERS Janelle Ramsay of ‘nelly & jean’ received the 'On|Off New designers One Year On' Award at this year’s New Designers exhibition giving her the opportunity to showcase her award-winning donut inspired Winston leather armchair and sofa at On|Off.
