The TrailCat all terrain cycle has been created as a more inclusive alternative to two wheeled cycling through the UK’s parkland. It was submitted in partial fulfilment of a final year of study for a BSC Honours degree in Product Design
As a continuation of a previous project to develop a cycle for a young adult with Cerebral Palsy, it is primarily aimed at those who find the traditional bicycle layout problematic. A skill that most of us take for granted, riding a bike is more complex for those with balance, mobility, strength, flexibility and vision problems and even those who just didn’t learn to ride!
Using an ultimately stable four wheel platform the TrailCat has a number of features that would benefit not only the intended user group but would give the ardent two wheeled rider a new perspective on pedal powered vehicles.
Exhibiting at the New Designers Exhibition generated a wide range of contacts, enabling me to set up as a freelance Design Engineer, as well as invites to attend 100% Design & The Cycle Show, which themselves have lead to further publicity, work and exhibition invites
Built as a functional, rideable prototype the TrailCat’s participation at The Cycle Show is intended to stimulate interest, demonstrate feasibility and act as a catalyst for research, development and funding opportunities.
