Tray Table
Helen Bradley has designed and made a table, which is specifically designed to be useless without its tabletop that can be lifted off and used as a tray. A 3D design graduate from Northumbria University, Helen Bradley’s work tackles the little problems encountered in everyday life. The white steel table frame is useless without the tray, which intentionally prevents people using it to put other things on. The tray is then placed on the top and the piece of furniture is complete.
That tray is made from moulded ABS plastic. It has a step in the base to direct the user where to hold it and also lets the tray to sit flat against the table.
Helen takes inspiration from the small but frustrating problems that many people encounter everyday. She believes that design should have a function, be aesthetically pleasing and solve a problem. By observing small problems and creating a way round it she has produced a piece of furniture, which not only solves a problem but is interesting and functional.
